This week I have been able to learn a lot about the difference between the sexes. Men and women are created equal, but not the same.

Boys and Girls.

As you can tell, I really like to talk about my family and our experiences. So, here I go again! I am the oldest of four boys and two girls. Our family dynamic has always been crazy because of the ratio of boys to girls is in favor of boys. I’m used to the house filled with Nerf gun fights, toy cars everywhere and the constant sound of farts and burps. My brothers were constantly wanting to be up and going doing every crazy thing imaginable. I can recall that my brothers have gotten a significant amount more injuries than my sister and I did. That’s just how boys are right? My sister and I on the other hand, we liked to play babies, barbies, house and were(usually)pretty chill. We would get all our friends together and put on dance shows for our families and even our neighbors(which was super embarrassing looking back on). That’s just kind of how life was for us. The girls gravitated towards more domestic and feminine things while the boys were more aggressive and violent. Girls played with girls and boys played with boys. It is very interesting to think about and believe it or not, there’s actually a science behind all this.

Science.

Studies show that gender plays a huge role even at the beginning of life. It’s been shown that children as young as nine months old prefer to play with toys specific to their gender. Even toy companies throughout time have tried to sell girl directed toys to boys and vise versa and yet they still stuck to their gender specific toys! This proves that they are different. Their brains are wired differently and want different things.

What happens to those boys and girls as they get older? They mature in different ways and that is all for a reason! Going back to the toys, girls choose babies because they were created to have a more nurtured mind. Boys choose guns and fighting because they were created to have a more protective mind. Men and women are supposed to be different so that they can work together in a family. If they were the same, they would just but heads all the time and nothing would get done!

We are created the way we are for a reason.

I think that we should also not disregard men and women who have qualities of the opposite sex. Some women are protective and some men have nurturing qualities. This doesn’t make them any less of a man or woman. We all are created the way we are because God has a purpose for each of His beloved children.

Conclusion.

Overall my conclusion with all this is that men and women are different and that is GOOD! Can you imagine if we were all the same? Life would be so boring! Gordon B. Hinkley once said, "In His grand design, when God first created man, He created duality of the sexes. The ennobling expression of that duality is found in marriage. One individual is complementary to the other. As Paul stated, 'Neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord' (1 Corinthians 11:11). There is no other arrangement that meets the divine purposes of the Almighty. Man and woman are His creations. Their duality is His design. Their complementary relationships and functions are fundamental to His purposes. One is incomplete without the other."

We wouldn’t be able to help people the way we can if we are different. I’m grateful that God created us this we way. We should all embrace it and love each other for our differences.
